Richard Arthurs is a firmware and software engineer (EIT) at SpaceAlpha Insights. He works on real-time processing of synthetic aperture radar data in space. His work spans FPGA development, embedded software, systems engineering, and electronics. He enjoys multi-disciplinary problems, and is excited about the applications for increased space-based computing power in the future.
Richard's journey into the space industry began in undergrad as an early member of the SFU Satellite Design Team. The onboard computer development he led was brought over to the ORCASat project, which was developed from 2018-2022, and operated successfully in 2022-2023. Richard enjoys building technical teams, and his ORCASat contributions spanned all aspects of system integration, onboard computer development, and ground segment software.
Richard also takes on contract work in the space embedded systems domain. He holds a degree in Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Simon Fraser University.
