Zenith Fellow Intern, Class of 2023
Western University, Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering and Ivey HBA
Host Organization: Euroconsult Canada
Mentor: Angelique Alhstrom
Rafael currently studies at Western University, pursuing a dual-degree in Mechatronics Engineering and Ivey HBA.
From a young age, Rafael was drawn to the world of engineering. He spent countless hours tinkering with Lego robotics which sparked his creativity and curiosity. This became his inspiration to learn how to design and create the technology that seems so similar to magic today.
As a member of the Western Satellite Team, he has worked on the Attitude Control subsystem. His work involves the research and design of the magnetic actuator system for use on Western’s 3U Cubesat.
Though born in Colombia, he has lived between BC and Ontario since moving to Canada in 2006. Growing up as a member of Scouts Canada, his nights spent staring at the stars evoked a sense of awe and wonder at the complexity of the universe. He recognizes the potential for space technology to revolutionize fields such as agriculture, energy, and transportation, and is committed to working towards bringing these innovations to life.
Rafael’s time at Ivey has given him an interest in the world of business. In the future, he hopes to combine his passion for space and engineering with his entrepreneurship spirit. He is thrilled to be joining Euroconsult Canada this summer to support the Space Team and gain insight into market intelligence.
