Jameel Janjua is a test pilot for Virgin Galactic and is ecstatic to help open access to space for humankind. His role involves helping to develop, test, and operate the world’s only piloted spaceship in operation.A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Jameel has also earned a Master of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jameel was a front-line fighter pilot on the CF-18 Hornet. He is a graduate of the prestigious Fighter Weapons Instructor Course. As an exchange officer to the Royal Air Force, he flew 84 combat sorties in the Tornado GR4. Jameel subsequently was selected to attend the USAF Test Pilot School, where he became the 4th Canadian in over 70 years to receive the Liethen-Tittle award. He served as an F-16 and F-15 experimental test pilot at Edwards AFB.As a test pilot and fighter pilot, Jameel has accumulated 4,400 hours of flying experience in more than 50 different aircraft. He was one of the final four candidates in the Canadian Space Agency’s 2009 astronaut recruitment campaign that received over 5,000 applicants.
In 2019, Jameel was invested as an Officer in the Order of Military Merit in recognition of a career of outstanding meritorious service. Jameel serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
