Dr. Gavin Tolometti

Gavin Tolometti is a postdoctoral associate at the University of Western Ontario where his research focus is on understanding how lava flows on Earth, which are similar to lunar and Martian lava flows, are emplaced based on radar observation data. He has a background in geologic fieldwork, geochemistry, mineralogy, remote sensing, and planetary image analysis. Throughout Gavin’s PhD, he has collaborated with researchers from across Canada, the United States, and Europe, including scientists from the NASA Goddard Instrument Field Team. Gavin has participated in two planetary science analogue sample return missions (Canadian Space Agency (CSA) funded 2016 CanMars and 2019 CanMoon mission), stood as the lead field geologist for the CSA Precursor for Human and Scientific Rover concept study to select analogue field sites for the CanMoon 2019 mission, and has been the project manager for two Mars-Iceland research field deployments. In addition, Gavin is an active science communicator on social media and spends his free time running his space podcast called “The Diaries of Space Explorers”.
