Bethany Downer

Bethany Downer was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland, where she currently works remotely in the domains of communications and outreach for the space industry to bring space and astronomy to the general public. She believes that being inspired and excited by the space sector starts with a strong awareness and comprehension, which results from effective communications and outreach. She is the Chief Science Communications Officer for the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes for the European Space Agency and the Director of Communications for STAR HARBOR, which will be the world's first publicly accessible spaceflight training facility. Bethany has also worked with the International Astronomical Union, Space Scoop, the UNESCO International Day of Light, SES Networks, and more. Bethany holds a Masters degree in Space Studies, has twice been named one of Canada's Top 30 under 30, and is a recipient of the Sovereign's Medal from Canada's Governor General.
