Zenith Fellow Mentee, Class of 2025
University of Waterloo, Mechatronics Engineering
Mentor:
Chantelle Dubois

Asmi's passion for space started with watching the 2021 Perseverance Rover landing on Mars, where, after being mesmerized by the pride and enthusiasm of the control room engineers, she decided to pursue space engineering. As a result, Asmi is currently a Mechatronics Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, dedicated to exploring the intersection of software and aerospace. Her long term goals include contributing towards advancing space technology through working on high impact projects.

Previously, Asmi interned at the Canadian Space Agency, where she gained experience in systems architecture through performing needs analysis on space projects. She was also a member of the Space Soldering project at the Waterloo Space Research Team, where she helped develop the embedded software for and tested an experiment on a parabolic flight as part of the CANRGX7 competition.

Currently, she is the Software Lead on the Waterloo Space Research Team, leading the development of the embedded software and machine learning subsystems for a signal analysis project, called ASTRA. In this role, she combines her experience of software and aerospace applications, addressing the challenges in real-time data processing. Through all of her extracurricular and professional commitments, she remains enthusiastic and dedicated to push the boundaries of space technology, for advancing the future of humanity in space.
