Amna Adnan (she/her)

Zenith Fellow Mentee, Class of 2023
University of Calgary, Combined Degree in Mathematics (Honours) and Physics (Honours) at the University of Calgary
Mentor:
Marwa Wazzi

Amna loves learning new things, she is most passionate about mathematical logic, information security, machine learning, and the space industry.

Her love for information security was developed through her work with the University of Calgary Information Security Club, where she had the opportunity to create CTF challenges, teach workshops on information security topics, and cybersecurity challenge-of-the-week. Above all, through the club, she has met some of the most amazing people from whom she continually learns and who continue to refresh her passion for information security.

Amna first became interested in machine learning from a project she did with a wonderful team for the Innovation4Health 2022 Health Hack Competition. The project consisted of a machine learning model that predicted whether a patient from an LTCH would be admitted or discharged from the ER in order to prevent unnecessary transfers and ER crowding. Since the competition, Amna has further studied machine learning and data science and is always looking for ways to apply them in her work.

After being part of the Map the System program last year, Amna tries to apply systems thinking in everything she does and believes that there are a number of areas in the space industry that would benefit from a more focused systems thinking approach, and is extremely interested in working in information security in the space industry.

In her free time, Amna enjoys reading math and physics books, volunteering at the Campus Food Bank and with Calgary Impact, learning Latin, and spending time with her amazing family.

She is extremely excited to meet interesting people as a 2023 Zenith Fellow Mentee and can’t wait to see what she’ll learn!
